North Stars fall in EFL title game

MIDDLETOWN — The Plattsburgh North Stars fell short in their bid for an Empire Football League championship Saturday.
The top-seeded Hudson Valley Mountaineers (10-2) defeated the third-seeded North Stars, 41-30, at Middletown High School to win the Empire Football League title.
The North Stars led 23-20 at the half.
Plattsburgh coach Scott Aguglia said the game was a back-and-forth thriller.
“It was a heavyweight fight,” Aguglia said. “It was definitely back and forth all game. Hats off to them for maybe making one less mistake than us. It was a heck of a game.”
Tory Bouyea led the North Stars (7-5) with two touchdowns.
The Mountaineers captured the Empire Football League championship in their inaugural season.
Aguglia said he was proud of the grit and resiliency his team showed all season.
“This is a special group of guys,” Aguglia said.
“They stuck together through thick-and-thin and through all the adversity and ups and downs. I could not be more proud of every single individual that was on the field (Saturday).”
The North Stars were pursuing their first league championship since 2014.
