From Westmoreland Bulldog to Utica Yard Dog: The remarkable comeback of Dawson Cook

by: Ron Klopfanstein

“After it’s over, everyone always says you want to put the pads on again.”

Dawson Cook was talking about playing for the Westmoreland Bulldogs.

“Well, I got the chance to put the pads on again.”

When his last high school season ended in the fall of 2016, Cook never thought he would have the chance to play football again. Now he is playing football again and this time it is for a semi-professional football team, the Utica Yard Dogs.

The Utica Yard Dogs are a semi-professional football team based in Utica. The team has a player development franchise agreement with the New York Giants, the Hamilton Tiger Cats, and the Ottawa Rough Riders, and are a developmental team for the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL).
