The Sussex Stags' winning streak has ended at four.
With Saturday's 20-12 road loss to the Watertown Red and Black, the semi-pro Stags dropped to 4-2. They had reeled off four in a row since losing their season opener to that same Red and Black team on July 11, but the streak came to a crashing halt.
More significantly, Saturday's loss at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown dropped the Stags out of first place in the Empire Football League, knocking them a game behind the now pace-setting Red and Black, who stand at 5-1.
It was a frustrating Saturday on so many levels. Dropping out of first place, having the win streak stopped, losing to the same team twice, all made for big-time disappointment. But, it was also a game that could be summed up by Yogi Berra's classic phrase – deja vu all over again. Like their first matchup with Watertown last month, Saturday's game saw missed opportunity after missed opportunity for the Stags.
